Today was my friend's birthday, and what better excuse than a special occassion to go out and buy a whole cake? Although I would have loved to try out some of the patisseries around town, the ones that I had my eyes on were closed on Sundays. I therefore ended up going to the basement of David Jones where they have a decent food section (though I must say, nothing beats the food section in Harrods that I so dearly love). From the selection of cheesecakes, tarts, mousse and all, I finally settled on a chocolate and hazelnut cake seeing as I knew my friend to like her chocolate fixes. Carrying it home, I was surprised at how heavy it was, and when it came to cutting the cake, it became apparent why it was so. The thing was almost like solid chocolate, with crushed hazelnuts densely packed into the cake with extreme generosity. Although the chocolate coating on top was a little too much for me, I have to say this was by far the best chocolate cake I have had in Sydney. A must for any chocoholic.
