There's a luxury ice cream shop in Leichhardt called 'Glacé' that stocks 'Van Crombruggen' belgium waffles imported all the way from a place called Benelux (apparently an economic union shared between Belgium, Netherlands and Germany). Where ever or what ever it is, as long as the waffles are good, I'm happy. So back to the waffle. I decided to lightly toast it, which I immediately regretted the moment I took it out of the toaster as it went all soft and squishy (my ideal liege style waffle is for it to be slightly crunchy on the outside). Nevertheless it still retained a decently solid texture on the inside, had a pleasantly sweet taste and was not overly buttery, which I find can often be the case with packaged waffles. All in all, nothing beats a freshly baked waffle, but for a factory-made product, I guess it's as good as it can get.

You should go and try the FRESHLY BAKED waffles at Paddington market - Sydney, every saturday from 10.00-4.00pm. They are divine, hand made and still warm from the waffle machine. The guy makes them fresh in front of you and serves them dipped in real belgian chocolate which he keeps in a bain-marie. Just divine, to die for!
